The Dharmic Thought: Preface
Humanity today deals with a number of problems which demands a solution. And I have not increased any knowledge by starting from this point. The point however remains that this is indeed a truth. To count the problems that Human species face requires a very thorough categorization into different facets of human life. One such Categorization would be simple: Individual problems and Collective problems.
Individual problems deal with the problem of a human being with itself. A single human is a contradiction in itself. It has a fragmented being. What do I mean by this? Suppose I ask you if you will call yourself Kind. You might say yes. Most of us are in fact Kind in our day-to-day life. But, say, someone starts misbehaving with you on a daily basis. Will you be kind to him in that scenario? maybe not. You will let him taste the flavor of his own medicine, won't you? So, it means your kindness is conditional, right? We do not stop here. What if that person is a family member? You somewhat forgive him then. So, it is conditional with respect even to proximity to the person as well. There you go, Fragmented being. There is a constant conflict within the human to either be "Swaarthi" or "Paraarthi" [ Selfish or selfless]. To be selfish is to think about oneself and if you could not justify yourself about your decision, it leads to Maansik Avsaad, i.e. Mental health deterioration. Whereas, if you could not explain your overboard selflessness, it can again lead to self-hate, a sense of worthlessness. A fragmentation exists within the self of the human being. A human being is a struggle in itself, A Kurukshetra in itself.
Collective problems are problems of humanity at large. This involves communities of humans interacting with each other on a mass scale. Global hunger issue, Terrorism, Climate change are some collective problems. Collective problems have a scale wise distinction in problems. Some are country specific problems, some family specific and some are even problems between two people forming an alliance institution like Marriage.
Why are we in such a mess? Every human being asks this question at least once in a lifetime why he has to bear this all? He might come up with a solution which will, in his perspective, take him out of this mess. But when we think of humanity as a whole. What can redeem humanity from its sins?
The Learned men, the monks, the saints of this land came up with a way of thinking which can be of some help. I call it the Dharmic Thought. Now, what is this Dharmic thought? In a more specific sense, this is what Upanishads and more scientifically Buddha talk about. Another wise man who came up with this is Lao Tzu in China. He calls it the Ultimate Tao. Can I explain the Dharmic thought in the content of one blog? No. But it is a beginning. I might write a series of blogs, explaining the Dharmic thought. Let us go in a Journey, Journeys need to be started. If they are your journeys, they will definitely find a good end.
